AI in Compliance Pulse Check: Roadmaps and Key Questions to Guide Adoption

The tension between opportunities, risks, demands, and budgets when adopting generative artificial intelligence (AI) in legal and compliance is palpable. According to FTI Technology and Relativity’s General Counsel Report 2025, more than two-thirds of general counsel are interested in using generative AI, and 44% report their legal teams are already using it. Meanwhile, 41% of general counsel ranked regulatory compliance as their primary legal risk. Given the close partnerships between legal and compliance teams, growing reception of AI tools, external competitive pressures, internal business demands, and actual approved or unsanctioned uses of generative AI, compliance professionals are facing a pressing need to enhance their organization’s AI governance posture.
